Takesaki to replace Shimada as Supreme Court chief justice

TOKYO —

Hironobu Takesaki, head of the Tokyo High Court, is set to be named as the next chief justice of the Supreme Court to replace Niro Shimada, who will retire Nov 21, informed sources said Tuesday.

Prime Minister Taro Aso is expected to meet with Shimada shortly to hear his opinions before the cabinet formally approves Takesaki, 64, as the 17th chief justice of the top court, according to the sources.
