Japan Earth Quake 6.3

6.3 earthquake jolts Sea of Japan - UPI.com

TOKYO, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck Japan's Sea of Japan coast but no tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of injuries, officials said.

The Sunday morning quake was felt in wide areas of central and eastern Japan, Kyodo News reported.

Residents were warned of possible strong aftershocks for the next week or so.

The same area was shaken by a string of quakes of similar magnitude in December 1990, Kyodo News said.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was 70 miles east of Ishigaki-jima on Japan's Ryukyu Islands.

I am wondering why this is being posted, but not the worse one (in terms of people effected) that happened in Niigata two days ago. It was a 5 with the epicenter in a populated area - meaning that it was a 5 for the people who felt it, and it was felt over a fairly wide area.

The one in the article happened well off the cost, so the worst felt was 4 or less - and felt pretty much only on a few small islands. Certainly not all over Japan.

It`s like they`ve combined the two for a more dramatic article.
