Suggestions for Akihabara? - 06-28-2008, 05:22 AM

I want to take a friend who is visiting me from England to Akihabara, but despite the fact that I live in Tokyo, I know very little about the place.
Where are the best shops to go to?
And are there any particular maid cafes that you can recommend?
Specific place/shop names would be really helpful.

Thanks!

AKIHABARA | Store Information | MANDARAKE

I have only been to the MANDARAKE in Umeda and Minami Osaka, but they both had pretty open maid cafes...actually they were "mother cafes". I say "open" as they were a part of the store, so you could see what was up without actually sitting down, and the priced looked pretty reasonable. I bet the one in Akihabara has one, too. Those places can be really expensive if you are not careful.

There is no one place to recommend in the main electric town. Some shops open and close in a month. Many places are found by accident.
Look for stairs leading down or shops on 2/3/4/5/6/7/8 th floors normaly entered via the ground floor shop.
Just poke around allot and dont be afraid to enter places.

You can always pick up Akiba guides (monthly) that show the location of the Maid cafes or just stand outside Akiba station (elecrtic town entrance South) where the maids hand out flyers.
If you come out of elecrtic town entrance North (facing UDX) look right and you will see Yodabashi Akihabara in the near distance (over the train station) about 5 mins walk.

Go into UDX (3rd floor I think) for the animation shop. They have some area guides and tokyo maps.

Find KFC and turn right (coming from Akiba station after crossing the road) and head down here checking the side roads. Carry on straight down and cross the road bearing left (away from softmap) and carry on down the first street you see (lots of vending machines on the right of this street enterance) just a short walk and you will see Mandrake on the right.
Explore this area for a few mad shops and Maid cafes.

Akihabara.. What a strange part of Tokyo. I walked through once, I wasn't to impressed. The place is creepy. The only good place I saw was that main shoping center as soon as you get off of Akihabara Station.

Plus there are a bunch of wierdo and psycho's there. Some guy just went on a murder rampage a month ago.
