What are some of the best places to go and things to do in Japan?

It really depends what kind of things you enjoy... are you after sightseeing? Eating many different foods? Specific activities (snowboarding etc)?

Japan is a big country and different regions have lots of different things to do so it is hard to say which is 'the best place' because they can be very different
