I spread my wings and flew away, and the spot where I fell

Kanto region:
anime and manga = akiba
shopping/night life = shibuya/harajuku/yokohama
adult entertainment/night life = shinjuku
onsen/cultures = hakone/nikko

Kansai region:
shopping/night life/adult entertainment=osaka
culture/tradition= kyoyo/nara

you can probably cover all these places in 12 days.... 5K US is more than enough... hope this help

5K is possible... if you eat at restaurant for every meal and you pickup a lot of souvenir...

My previous trip was about 7-8K in 14 days, including plane ticket and accommodation , food and all... but i did spend a great deal in souvenir and electronics

5K is not really a lot in 12 days, considering the high cost of living in Japan. I should say it's just adequate if you want to enjoy your trip thoroughly. I myself already spent 2K in 5 days just in Tokyo (including air tics and accommodation), but I have no regrets
