4 days in Tokyo - 04-09-2008, 09:38 AM

Hello!

We are 2 couples visiting Tokyo for 4 days in June. We want to experience the vibe of the city and do some sightseeing. We have never been to the city, so we need some recomendations for things to see and things to do.

My experience with the big cities is that you often do all those tourist-trap-crap-things. We have only 4 days, so we want to do some good research, and hopefully have some good experiences alittle bit off the beaten track.

So what do you suggest?

Any perfect places (areas) for drinking, eating, partying, shopping etc. Is it any real good niche bars (Indie/jazz etc)? or places having interesting concerts?

What is the best area to stay in? Can you recomend a nice good deal mid- range hotel in the heart of the city?

Hope you can help us out (-:

M

Spend one day at the Daiba, don't take a train, get off at shinbashi station and switch to the local Tokyo Metro line, I don't remember the station name (if someone can help), but get off one station before you hit the rainbow bridge, walk across the brdige, which is the best thing to do to have a great view

Night life: Shinjuku and Shibuya

Shrine: Harajuku, there is also a nice temple in Kamakura, which is not far from Tokyo, also go to Asakusa for the Sensoji shrine

Entertainment: Ueno, Akiba area...

Allt hese should "cost" you about 3 days... the tokyo tower is one of those thing that you really want to go but will be a disappointment when you are up there....

You can look at the itinerary for my tokyo trip last month. Pretty much covers every place you need to visit in tokyo.

Yeah do read his guide, its very detail, I had a peek at it.

Too bad you only have 4 days. Tokyo only gives you a bit of what Japan really is like...

One thing I forgot. for hotel, check these guys out:

Tokyu Hotels Official Website - tokyuhotelsjapan.com - HOME

One of the largest hotel chain in Japan, they usually have a branch close major stations

They are very affordable, try to stay around Ueno or Shibuya area if you could..

If you want to go for a side trip from Tokyo, you must go to Nikko! It's a good mix of culture plus nature, i.e. lots of shrines, waterfalls, lake and mountain. Just posted some pics on Nikko on my blog at 3 Really Cool Dudes In Tokyo :-D !!!

Go see it!
