Where are the places to be apart from Temples on New years eve?

Will be in Tokyo New years eve, we are starting off at a roof top bar in Ginza and will then work our way into other areas.

Was wondering where there would be some cool alternative type bars to check out around say the Shibuya and Harashuku areas.

Then a find sweet place for a countdown and possibly some fireworks?

...and what is the go with consuming alcohol on the streets?

New Years is different in Japan. Most people are at home...like Thanksgiving... so most of the partyers are just going to be other foreigners. I was in Tokyo for New Years several years ago, and we had to search to find open bars. I don't remember any fireworks.

I have heard they do fireworks at Tokyo disneyland.

And ballons at the Zojoji Temple Countdown.

Just wondering if there are any other events like these.

fireworks is usually in Summer.. new year as I celebrated this year with a Japanese family is usually spent at home eating soba or for those with stamina is to go the temple and rang the bell ( which is only as I was told to a few people, first come first server basis ) and if you rang that bell you have a good year ..

and most establishment on new year are closed so no where to go but the temples :D
