Internet bandwidth at hostels? - 07-21-2008, 06:28 PM

I see that most or all of the hostels that I will be staying at have internet available, but I'm not sure about the bandwidth! My friend said that they were all pretty slow when he was there last year. I plan on uploading lots of photos at night, and don't really want to have to make them smaller just so I can get it done in a reasonable time.

If anybody has personal experience, I'm staying at:

Ace inn, shinjuku
K's house, mt. fuji
Ryokan Kangetsu
Homeikan
Hotel Kamogawa

I can`t comment on the actual bandwidth at a hostel - but it`s my guess they probably have fairly normal internet service. Japan`s infrastructure is wonderful, so I find it hard to imagine them being especially slow. It actually ends up being far more costly to use the slower types of access (ISDN, ADSL) than FTTH - Especially in the city.

But still, if you feel they are incredibly slow, you should ask about internet cafes. If all else fails, you could pick up a few USB drives (They`re incredibly cheap here) and copy the photos over to them until you get home or somewhere faster.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.
