Hiking / cycling in Hokkaido - 07-21-2008, 12:32 AM

Hi there
I thankyou in advance for any advice you can give
I will be in Japan for 24 days over september and October

I would like to spend 5/6 days in Hokkaido
We would be using public transport - mainly train
We want to come to Hokkaido for nature - hiking and cycling, and eating seafood

1) Is it worth going to Hokkaido just for 5 / 6 days

2) What would be the best 2 places to visit - remembering we just want to hike and cycle
We dont want to stay in big cities

3) Is Rebun and Rishiri Islands that special ? Are they too cold in September ?

4) Can you recommend a national park that is easily accessible by public transport

thankyou
