Summer Conventions in Tokyo? and underage drinking?

i'm going to a language school in tokyo in the summer (from late july to late august) and i was wondering if anyone knows of any conventions there might be on at that time? and what conventions in japan are like? i just thought it might be interesting to visit one while i'm over there, and see how they compare to the fun ones we have in the UK ^^
and also, i'll be 18 when i go over there and i heard the drinking age is 20, is that right? what are the rules on underage drinking like in japan? i don't know if i can live for a month without going clubbing!

As a foreigner, you will have no trouble. They never ask for ID or anything like that when you're buying booze. If they do say no, just seek out one of the beer and sake vending machines on the street or start going, "Eh, wakanai, eh, nani?" Unless the clerk knows English, they'll probably give up and just sell it to you. What do you mean by conventions? There's permanent shops for that sort of thing, but I am sure they have big events every now and then. There's another thread in this section that has info on where you can find manga stores/cafes.
