Sakura House demands Japanese contact? - 08-29-2008, 04:13 PM

I just received a welcoming mail from Sakura House, and it said:

" Before signing the lease agreement, we ask you to fill out your
contact information in the case of emergency. Please bring the
contact information of your family in your home country (parents') and
your friend/employment/school in Japan.

Lack of information will result in the cancellation of your
reservation. In the case, the deposit is not refundable."

The problem is that we are only going to Japan for vacation and
sightseeing, so we don't know anyone in Japan, and we are not going to
any school. Is this okay as long as we have contact information for
relatives at our home country?

I've emailed them about this, but they haven't answered yet, and I need to find out as soon as possible as we are leaving this monday.

Does anybody have any personal experiences?

Thanks

EDIT: Just as I hit post, I realised this thread should be in the Japanese living category. Maybe a nice admin can change it?

This is purely a guess on my part, but would they accept your local Consultate's office at the emergency contact? not sure how the Consulate's office would feel about that, but being your official contact in a foreign country is part of their job.

That might be possible. Thanks

However now I've got their reply:

"Yes, since you have reported us your move-out date
and it is the one-month stay, the contact information of your family relative in your country is acceptable.

(However, please note: it is best to have the contact information in Japan for the emergency.)

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Sakura House Co., LTD.
"

They really scared me, but now it seems that everything's okay.

If you would feel safer using a contact living in Japan, you are welcome to use me.
