A harajuku question.

I have a question...
I have be wanting to go to Tokyo for a while now and i totally love Harajuku fashion. But I was wondering if Japanese people object to Americans dressing up and hanging out there.
I know its dumb but I was curious.

nope, it's pretty common actually...

AnimeBaby112 10-11-2008 05:47 PM

Really? wow. all the pictures i have seen of Harajuku have only been japanese.

lol i doubt i'd look as good as they do.

MMM 10-11-2008 05:49 PM

They would probably love it.

AnimeBaby112 10-11-2008 05:55 PM

odd.

would not look that good.

i love the fashion though.

i have another small quick sort of off topic question; does anyone know if there is a book on the fashion there? with like pictures and stuff.

thats the reason i want to go there so bad. writing a book about that.

Every weekend there are a few foreigners - mostly tourists, mostly young, and mostly female - who show up in Harajuku wearing lolita or some sort of gothic or other Harajuku-esque style clothing. The Japanese girls seem friendly enough to the non-Japanese girls wearing Harajuku fashion. I do think that you will have problems communicating with the Japanese Harajuku girls if you don't speak at least some Japanese.

In general, in Japan, if you are friendly to the Japanese people, they will be very friendly to you. There are exceptions, but I think it's true here more than many other places in the world.

As far as books, there are a few that have come out recently. Try one of these if you haven't see them already:

Style Deficit Disorder
Japanese Schoolgirl Inferno

Have fun in Japan! :pandahurray:

Seems like thats what some people only go to japan for=P

No problem to dress up like Americans and go around Harajuku, in that mater anywhere around Tokyo. I suggest you also visit Ginza streets and Asakusa.
