As my personal opnion, Yakuza seem to be hidden in Shinjuku and Ikebukuro.

And be careful if you see white Bentz (or Mercedez) which is the symbol of Yakuza.

Yakuza don't bother foreigners unless you purposely try to make trouble with them. I've been around them in the countryside and in Tokyo (not actually hanging out with them, just walked by) and they didn't even bother to look at me.

Also, I walked down some of the worst streets in shibuya and shinjuku and no one bothered me, the danger level is pretty laughable compared to the states... You might get a few rude Japanese that will make comments about you, but the majority of people are really nice.

Good luck and have fun!

Actually, funny enough (and this isn't meant to say that Yakuza are particularly good guys, they're still gang members one must remember), I spoke with someone who stayed over in Japan for a while, and made friends with a few Yakuza members.

She apparently stayed in an apartment/dorm thing that was run by them, and they apparently had a fair amount of fun pranking each other 'till the boss told them to stop.

So basically... If you DO end up having to deal with them, make friends, not enemies, lol.

Other than that... Good luck. Enjoy.

Housetek, you are right.

Not all white mercedez are owned by yakuza and not all Yakuza own white Mercedez.

However high position people of Yakuza would like to have white or Black Mercedez (and could have cmoked glass), because Mercedez is believed to be very tough to attack.
