Question Going to Japan at Christmas - 11-16-2008, 04:13 AM

I am considering to go to Tokyo at Christmas with my daughter of 15 years old for about 5 days. Can anyone give me advise if it is really cold in Tokyo in winter? What should we see in such a short time? I heard everything is VERY expensive in Japan. I have a budget of about 2000 Euro for the whole trip (including hotel). Is it really little money? We want to stay at a decent (3 star hotel).
Thank you!

Oh my gosh, for 5 days that should be PLENTY of money. It is cold in Tokyo, but probably not below freezing. Snow is possible.

Thanks for the quick reply. Any ideas on what we should see?

don't live in tokyo but i would recommend seeing the imperial palace, meiji shrine, harajuku. go to a restaurant called "the lock up". they lock you up for real. its a blast you can read more about it online.... gothic themed places hehe....

if its cold in japan just get some nice japanese tea, sure to warm you up!

I would say Tokyo Tower, Odaiba, it depends on what you are into.

2000 Euros... That will be for airfare and hotel for 2? To Tokyo? For 5 days?

It's possible, but may not be easy. The cheapest you'll find a three star hotel for in Tokyo is probably around 15,000 yen per night. I'd recommend the Prince hotel in Shinagawa. The rooms aren't bad, the location is great, and you should be able to get one for less than 10,000 yen per night.

The Prince hotel is on the Yamanote line adjacent to Shinagawa station. The Yamanote line passes the places of most interest in Tokyo, such as the palace, the museums and zoo at Ueno, Ikebukuro, Shibuya, Harajuku, etc. You can get to Odaiba by switching from the Yamanote train to the Yurikamome train at Shinbashi station, which is between Tokyo station and Shinagawa station.

Good luck.

I was in tokyo over "Xmas/new years" last year. The weather was very mild, a few rainy moments but generally mild and agreeable. I´d love to go again this year.

Thanks everyone for your ideas. I did mean 2000 Euro just for the hotel and our staying in Tokyo for 5 days. I guess I' ll need to check all those places on the internet. We are not really into night life, so some places of cultural interest would be good. Anyone have been to a theatre in Tokyo, like ballet?
