Exclamation Itinerary Advice - 12-05-2008, 02:37 AM

I'm Travelling to Japan in February and I am trying to finalise where I'll be going and for how long...

This is what I'm thinking so far

Day 1 -4 Tokyo
Day 5 -8 Kyoto
Day 9 -10 Fukuoka & Nagasaki
Day 11 -12 Hiroshima
Day 13 -14 Osaka
Day 15 -17 Nagano
Day 18 Tokyo

I figure a few days in Tokyo, then to Kyoto where i can see Nara & Hemeji, then down to Fukuoka and Nagasaki, then back up to Hiroshima, and see Haji & Miyajima, then back up to Osaka then from Osaka through Nagoya to Nagano, finally from Nagano to Tokyo stoping at Nikko on the way.

Any advice? should i spend more or less time anywhere, is there somewhere else I should go, or anywhere I should miss?

Himeji is between Osaka and Hiroshima, not Kyoto, so it's best to see that when you are heading to or from Hiroshima. And Nikko is 2 hours northeast of Tokyo, and looking at my map, I think you'd have to head most of the way to Tokyo before you could get a train line heading to Nikko. Nikko is best done as a day trip from Tokyo. Also, I think you'll want at least 2 days in Nagasaki, and 1 in Fukuoka, for 3 days on Kyushu. Cut back 1 day from either Tokyo, Nagano, or Kyoto. For the 2 days in Hiroshima, spend 1 in the city itself, and the other on Miyajima Island, off the coast. You might also consider seeing Takayama and Kamikochi instead of/in addition to Nagano... not sure what you want to see in Nagano, the Olympic village?

Ahh, ok. You'll also see lots of monkeys and deer on Miyajima Island.
