Hanami

It is almost Hanami time. Will you be participating? Even outside of Japan there are hanami events. Does your area have cherry blossoms?

Here are some pictures of my neck of the woods at the end of last March. Not sure if they are ornamental plum or cherry.

The Japanese Sakura have no actual fruit...just the blossoms.

Actually yes, we have cherry blossoms here and it's interesting how easily they adopted to our weather. Here are some pics from last year sakura blossoming.

I'm not sure if you are referring to me, but I am aware of that. The tree pictured is the same, no fruit only blossoms. But becasue of the leaf shape and color, combined with the time of the bloom, I wasn't sure if it was a cherry or plum tree. Ornamental plum blooms earlier than sakura, but this tree was blooming at the same time as the sakura while resmebling a plum tree. This year it will likely bloom even later because of the unusal amount of snow we have had. We had a few inches earlier this week that didn't melt off the trees for a couple days. It probably means instead of a mid April bloom for most of the sakura we will get a late april bloom unless the weather heats up drastically.
