Getting a visa to china

Hey guys,
Iam currently trying to get a visa to china from Japan. I am an american who is studying abroad in Nagoya. Any advice? Does anyone know how long it takes to just get a vistors visa?

It takes 3 days to get it on a regular application, on the "rush" for an extra fee, just one day.

To keep people like you out which is a good thing ;)

Anyway on a serious note, if it is for business purposes, just get a letter from your employer and rock up to the Chinese consultate with cash. If it is travel, you don't need anything, rock up, pay the high Visa cost and they will rubber stamp anything.

ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THIS? the consulate in nagoya said that i could only do it through a travel agency
