Cherry Blossoms in May? -
04-26-2009, 12:11 PM
Hi,
We will be in Japan in May and I am wondering if there is a chance to still experience any cherry blossoms during mid-May? From the forecasts it's probably too late. But I saw in some brochure from Nikko that there are spots higher up in the mointains where there still are cherry blossoms in mid-May. they mention Chuzenji-Onsen. We will be arriving in Tokyo on May 8th, stay a few days in the city and then head off to see other parts. As we have a rail pass, we wouldn't mind going a couple of 100km north to still catch some sakura. Any recommendations for good places are much appreciated. Mike |

Here is the Sakura-Map in Japan.

sounds good, too. I knew we would be rather too late but after reading that there is still sakura in some places I got curious. We will probably go to Nikko and if there are places higher up in the mountains, that's fine. If not, there will be other great things...

You might be too late for sakura but there are still many wonderful flowers. Sakura only last about 1 week and this changes every year so it is hard to schedule a trip to see sakura unless you are in Japan from the end of March to late April. thanks guys. I meanwhile booked a place in Tokyo and Kyoto. We are planning on seeing the festivals in Kyoto around May 16th. Seems quite a busy time, too.
Mike Edit: just realised that I posted this in the wrong thread. My apologies. |
