Tokyo Vacation Question - 05-04-2009, 04:19 AM

Greetings.
I have been to Japan several times with my husband, who is able to get us around easily. This time I'm going with a girlfriend and am concerned about getting from one place to another. Our plan is to go to Takaragawa Ryokan from Tokyo and I think we can manage that via train and bus. But from there we'd like to go to Monkey Park (my favorite place on earth) and another ryokan near Monkey Park, probably in Yudanaka. Then perhaps to Shirakawa-go and then to Narita City. Will we be able to do all this by train (without going back to Tokyo) and should we get a JR pass?

Thanks so much for any replies and suggestions.

Aisa

Aisa, I edited the title to be more specific. We get many "Japan Vacation" threads.

I too will assume you mean Monkey Park in Inuyama. If you want to go from Tokyo to Inuyama, then all the way back to Narita city, then yes a JR pass will save you a significant amount of money.

All the locations you've specified essentially radiate outward from Tokyo. I doubt very much that you'll be able to visit all of them without bouncing through Tokyo a few times.

You got some good advice above.

You will need to take a bus to Shirakawa-go. I do not know if other companies have bus routes to the area but we took the Hida Takayama Nohi Bus

It should not be too hard as long as you get organized.
