Travel in Japan - 06-14-2009, 07:05 AM

Hi All,
I'm going to visit Japan in August (from 06 Aug to 18 Aug).
I would like to visit Tokyo, then Hakone (Mt. Fujy), Kyoto and then going back to Tokyo.
I would like to know how to get these places by Train and the average cost. Tks

You'd be better off to search the Google for the Japan Railway sight, and print all route maps, info and the like..

Straight from the source is always safe

I think Tokyo to Kyoto on the bullet train is around $130? Or so?
I remember looking at that route when I was using the ticket machine

Here's a link for planning rates, routes, and schedules. VERY handy.

Enter the station name

Here's the Japan RailPass site:

Japan Railways Group - Japan Rail Pass

best,

PS: Do the math and decide is a Japan Railpass makes sense for you. I THINK a one week pass is cheaper than a round trip Tokyo to Kyoto in reserved seat on shinkansen. Using un-reserved seats or slower trains saves money.

Do what other said about the search. You are better off with the rail pass with the amount of traveling you will be doing.

Its tricky to get to Hakone, there SHOULD be an express train that takes you from Shin Yokohama to Odawara, where you can take another train to Yumoto. To visit Fuji will be difficult, do you just want to climb it or just to see it? To view it you can do it through a boat cruise on Lake Ashi, you will need to take the ropeway (Hakone Ropeway)

Most of your traveling will be done on the Tokaido line.
