Bugs In Japan - warning, bug pictures

Should I actually expect to meet any of these nasties when I go to Japan?? I'm going to be mostly in Tokyo.. with trips to Hakone, Nikko and Kamakura. I have such a fear of spiders that I think my heart would just stop on the spot if i had one of them high leg spiders on me.. >.< and regarding the hornets.. well I don't really wanna die :S xD

The cicada looks like a fluffy bunny in comparison to the rest of the bugs in Japan xD

bugs don't really bother me.i do like spiders.i have a pet black widow.there is one insect i can't stomach and that's the cockroach .i know they've been on earth for over 200 million years yet there's something vile and disturbing about them.

This looks kinda pretty, but being a shield beetle It makes a big stink if you disturb it.



I must admit to loving the Japanese Hornet. It is a truely marvelous beast that demands big respect. If you are calm and dont move so fast, you can let these beasts land on you with no trouble. You have to just let them do what they do without troubling them. As soon as you draw attention to yourself then you will be in a whole world of pain.

P.S. They have got some good electronic bug swatters in Akiba. 360 yen gets you a thing like the Wii tennis addon with 100,000 volts of juice going through the mesh. Good fun and keeps you fit

I don't like cockroach but I can't say I really can't stand them...but spiders I really can't stand them!!!!I hate that they have so many legsXD ahh..they're horrible!!

That's the one which was in my apartment. They may be harmless to humans, but they leave strings of web all over everything. Nothing like walking to the toilet in the morning and getting a face full of spider webs when walking through the bathroom door.

Just looking at those pictures gives me the creeps. Can't stand bugs, especially those that look like they can sting or bite me. *shudders*

nobody mentioned camel spiders yet. i've spent 2 1/2 years in iraq during OIF so i had a fair amount of encounters with them.

how do i embed pictures...

i found one of these in my sleeping bag before, really didn't notice the sucker until i scratched an itch. the itch was the spider brushing my ankle!
i was a medic and i found one of these suckers on my aid bag too. it shocks me every time i'm unexpectedly confronted with these things because of it's size and nasty jaws. their jaws are strong enough to crush a tiny mouses skull, i've seen it done and there's movies on youtube too!

well.. bugs with a lot of eyes aren't necessarily harmful either lol.
Most centipedes are actually venomous though.

anyways, to each his own. I get the creeps from a lot of legs, you get the creeps from a lot of eyes.

no worries, japanese hornets tend to kill you, so dont worry about allergic reactions. once they attack you they send out a signal to other hornets of its kind to attack.
