Tell us more about your plans.

Do you have a proper visa which will allow you to stay/work in Japan? Do you have a job laid out? Do you have your accommodations arranged?

$2000 is nothing in Japan. I probably spent that much in Kabukicho over a 3 week period in Japan.

Even if you obtained a special visa, $2000 isn't enough to convince the Japanese govt to allow you to stay in Japan. It definitely isn't enough as an initial payment for long term accommodations either.

Well....everyone has asked the obvious questions. A plan....job...etc. I'm just wondering how old you are.

A security deposit and non-refundable key money for an apartment will cost you over $2000 before you even move in, even if you find the cheapest possible apartment in Tokyo or Yokohama. Meaning you will have nowhere to live. Good luck.

But wouldn't that even be difficult for him since he's a foreigner and how some landlords don't rent out to foreigners unless someone vouches for said person?

Yeah, he'd probably need a guarantor... most likely from a full time employer.

His best choice would be to live in an internet cafe. If he can find one for $20 a night, it might give him a month or two.

Otherwise, perhaps he could camp out in the mountains. Somewhere like the Aokigahara/Jukai near Mt. Fuji...

Make it in your own country first why don't you.
Harsh but true.
