(speaking) translation device needed? - 08-31-2009, 09:16 AM

Hi all,

this is my first post on the forum. As some others here, i am going to travel to Japan in a few weeks. I am from Europe and to be short: I was asking myself if it is worth the money to buy a (speaking) translation device. Does it really make communication better or can I rely on english and common sense?

Thanks for the opinions!

Elnglish and Common sesnse seems to work for most so far if you stay within tourist area or the city. It will be difficult for anything outside of the city. I find it extremely useful to have a small pocket dictionary, spitting out single words in japanese also work, or if all thing fail, show just show them the dictionary and point...
