konbini seeks travel advice

I am going to Japan for about a month in November and December.
I fly into Tokyo and out of Osaka.
I plan to spend about 5 days in Tokyo, 5 in Kyoto, and do to a homestay for a week or two. Other than this I don't know what to do.
Am thinking of going to Hokkaido, but not sure.
I want to see some snow on the ground and look a views of mountains and forrest.
Does anyone have suggestions of places I should visit?

What homestay program are you going through?

I am going to assume 1 month =4 weeks... so you need 2 weeks for homestay. Where will you be doing this?

That will leave you with 2 weeks left. What about the following

- 4 days around Tokyo area
- 2 days in Yokohama
- 1 days in a resort town something accessible to Mt Fuji (Atami, Odawara...)
- 3 days in Kyoto (Include Nara)
- 3 days in Osaka (Include Kobe and Himeji)
- 1 day - free

Thanks for the advice but it is actually 5 weeks so I could fit in more.
I don't know where I will do the homestay.
I thought maybe Nagano or an alpine town.
Do you have any suggestions?

I am not sure who I will do the homestay with. I found some people but I wasn't sure where I wanted to do it.
Also I want to to a short cooking or cultural course.
Do you have any suggestions?

perhaps instead of a cooking course you could let your homestay hosts know your interest and they'll include you in the homecooking process. theres nothing quite like learning from the source, and you'll probably become intimately involved in the whole process from shopping and sourcing the food all the way to dinner.

Thank you that sounds like a good suggestion if they have the time and patience to teach me. Do you know a good town to do a homestay?

godwine 09-30-2009 01:40 PM

I'd say Takayama for the homestay. Its very nice and peaceful there

So you essentially have 3 weeks for your other time.. so my suggestion chagnes a little:

- 5 days around Tokyo area
- 2 days in Yokohama
- 1 days in a resort town something accessible to Mt Fuji (Atami, Odawara...)
- 3 days in Kyoto (Include Nara)
- 4 days in Osaka (Include Kobe and Himeji)
- 1 day in Hiroshima/Miyajima
- 4 days in kyushu area (Hakata, Kagoshima)

I am spending 35 days in Japan. I first spending 5 days in Tokyo. A day in Yokohama and Kamakura. Then a week homestay in Nagano. Couple of days in Takayama and Matsumoto area. Another week homestay in Gifu area. Maybe two days in Fuji San area. About 5 days around Kyoto. A the last day in Osaka.
I have about a week where I am not sure where to go. Maybe I will go to northern Honshu. Maybe to Ise Jingu. My homestays aren't organised yet. Are the places i chosen to do homestays ok. I am confused. Can someone please give me some advice? Anyone one have any ideas of places I can visit and things to do?

You already started a thread in this forum on this, please add further question to that instead...
