ryokans/hostel/hotel for 5? - 10-29-2009, 07:11 AM

Hi,
We are a family of 5 (children between 14-18) that will go to Japan for 10 days. We are planning to stay at both ryokans and hostels as well as hotels.
At the moment we are planning to stay a few days in Tokyo, but also visit Kyoto and Nikko - and maybe Nara (might be too much).

As we are 5 - anybody who knows how difficult it is to reserve rooms for 5 as we want to avoid having multiple rooms (due to cost).

If possible we would like to find places to stay at following as much as possible of the following:
- place for 5 people, hopefully in one room
- located centrally in the towns, or convinient transportations nearby
- clean
- prefer Japanese atmosphere rather than western style (as staying in Japan)
- no curfew in Tokyo, the others might be ok

Anybody? flowers.png

Appreciate any help!

It will probably be easiest if you stick to Japanese style rooms - hotels with 5 beds in one room would be almost impossible... But 5 futons in a large Japanese style room would be no trouble at all. Ryokans are almost entirely Japanese style, and in my experience hostels also tend to be so - although a hostel may not have a room large enough to accommodate all of you.

If you stick with ryokans and minshuku (a sort of lower level of inn) and tell them that you have 5 people in your family, you shouldn`t have any trouble. At the in-laws` inn, they have groups of 8+ stay quite frequently - it`s very easy to add another futon to a room.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.
