Japan Tour

We are planning a 7-10 day trip to Japan in later April early May. We have a friend with a good size apartment in Yokohama that we can use as a base.

What is the best way to cover Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto if we want to stay in our friend's flat and take trains from there?

What are the range and cost of hotels and other accommodation?

You cannot stay in Yokohama and visit Osaka, Kobe, and Kyoto as day trips. They are too far away. Tokyo, on the other hand, is fine. About 45 minutes from Tokyo (depending on where you are).

I have 5 whole days in Tokyo. One day is a trip to Nikko, so 4 days in Tokyo. I dont know if I should stay those 4 days in Tokyo or if I should go one day to Kamakura and spend only 3 days in Tokyo. We will go to Kyoto, Nara and Koyasan, so I dont know if it would be too many temples for one trip. Any suggestions?

We would like to do a one day trip to Nikko. We may use the Japan railway pass. We wonder if it is better to do it on your own or pay for a tour (expensive$$)?. How easy is to reach there and then move around?.

Now, you seem to run a travel agency, whose websites I happen to have seen on JF many times before. Why is a pro asking all these basic questions to internet strangers?
