Oshima/Okinawa - Friday and Saturday nights - 07-23-2010, 11:15 AM

Hi all,

I'm going to be travelling to Okinawa for a good week and a half in late Aug-early Sept. This will obviously include one weekend and I'm wondering what are some good places (any island Ooshima - Okinawa - Miyako - Yaeyama) to go partying and to mingle? I'm asking as I am assuming Naha, Nago and Okinawa City are overrun by U.S. military on these nights? This is something I want to avoid ideally.

A bit of a weird question maybe, but I appreciate all suggestions

Cheers

I have never been there, so I can't help, but I am wondering where you heard Naha, Nago and Okinawa City are "overrun" by US military on the weekends. I have never heard that before.

I do know rules of behavior off base are strict, and the military does what it can to keep a lower profile than you might see in the movies.

Well...I've been to Tenjin (Fukuoka) on any night of the week and it's been packed with US Military from Sasebo. So I figured, Futenma base...Okinawa Island...Main cities...

I have been to Fukuoka on the weekend and never realized there was a US Military Base there. It just depends where you put yourself.
