What sort of countries do you want to visit first Suki?

Culinary trip to Japan - 12-21-2010, 12:57 AM

Hello

I am a 21 year old culinary student with a huge passion for food, and I have recently won an Award called Toyo-Orc, which means I will be moving to Tokyo in April 2011 for 2 months to experience the best food, drink and markets the country has to offer! I have already researched yakatori stalls, sushi restaurants, fish markets and other foodie places I want to visit.

But I would LOVE to meet an indigenous Japanese person, or some one who has lived there for a long time to show me all those little places tourists never see! I would be truly grateful if you can help. Please get in touch if you can be of any use what so ever

That's a shame, I probably wont have the funds to go in 2012
But at least all the memories are fresh in your head from 2 months ago I guess!
As long as no one beats me to the chase, I'll make that 2012 poll this time next year.

You got a deal!

I don't know how prices are for you guys, but in 2005, when I went there, I spent $2500 on a JAL round trip flight from Chicago to Narita and 10 nights in the Keio Plaza in a single occupancy room.

This last time I spent $1800 on a round trip JAL flight from Chicago to Narita and 10 nights at the Shinagawa Prince with a high floor room upgrade....

Do those prices seem reasonable to any of you, especially the last one? I feel it was well worth it...Just wondering if there's another website other than Travelocity that may offer better deals....

What kind of nabe did you have?
I just ate kimchi-nabe tonight, love it, cani(crab)-nabe is awesome too!

If you haven't had it yet, ask for sukiyaki, or omg kuhsikatsu!!
Take the train into Umeda, then get on the loop line till Tennoji, the best kushikatsu places are ALL there for some reason >< it should only take about 45mins from downtown Kyoto, go for the Hankyu line ot save money, JR for speed
thanks i can probably do that.
The name of the nanbe was Yu doufu. Have you tried it?
