Traveling Japan - 04-08-2011, 08:54 PM

A lot of people ask random questions about visiting Japan. So I figure why not start a thread to put all suggestion and recommendation in one place? Its simple, if you've been to Japan, and found anything interesting, just voice it out. Give as much information as you can. And make sure that when you post to this thread, the subject should be reflective of the particular location. I will start the first post

Kyushu - Fukuoka, Hakata, Tenjin Area - 04-08-2011, 09:00 PM

When: 2009 October
Hotel: Hakata Green Hotel - 福岡 ホテル 会議室 博多グリーンホテル 博多駅 天神
Hotel Price: Don't remember, see website
Location: Tenjin area

Duration: It was only a brief stay, actually, just half a day, we left Hakata the next morning.

Given the short time we were there, we only visited 2 places: Canal City, all we did was some shopping. Not much of an "attraction", just a lot of shop. The building itself is interesting. Took quite a bit of pictures there

The second "attraction" is along naka river late at night, we were yatai hopping, trying the real street food from stall to stall. People are very friendly, we ran into a group of high school teacher, who chatted with us briefly. It was really fun.

Kaiyodo Figure Museum - 04-08-2011, 11:44 PM

When: 2010 October
Where: Nagahama, Shiga-ken on the shores of Lake Biwa
How to get there: JR Hokuriku Main Line, 3 stops north of Maibara (Tokaido Main line)
Cost: 800yen
Hours: 10:00-17:00

If you like figurines and dioramas, this place is for you. The museum is a short five minute walk from the JR station in a covered street. There are full size figures at the door, so you can't miss it. The museum is spread over 2 floors and covers many anime series and other categories. (Military, animals, etc.) The store in the museum has quite a selection of toys and models to purchase. It's a nice day trip from Kyoto. Nagahama has a small castle and the lake views are nice. These are some photos from the museum.
