Cell Phone Email - 10-14-2011, 08:59 PM

Just had a quick question regarding Japanese cell phone email.

A friend told me that her cell account (through vodafone.ne.jp) can only accept email from cell phones.

Is this something which occurred recently? Or does it depend from provider to provider?

I could've sworn I sent emails earlier this year from my PC to vodafone.ne.jp.

I'm not a Softbank/legacy Vodaphone user, so I can't say for certain, but as far as I know you should be able to send and receive PC email account-based messages. That's the way it is with DoCoMo now and the way it was when I was using Au a few years ago. Why not just do a quick experiment and send her an email using whatever email service you normally use on your computer and have her send a message to the same address?

Softbank (former) user here, (I'm currently using b-mobile, which runs on docomo's network), and I can assure you that these addresses (like my own i.softbank.jp address) work exactly the same as any other email address.

There is a setting you can use to block messages from non-phones. It is one of the more popular ways to block spam as most spam messages aren't coming from another phone.

Chances are, those are her settings and values not being flooded by spam over getting messages from pc addresses.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

After talking to her again, it looks like she was blocking non-phone email to reduce the spamming of her phone - as Nyororin pointed out above.

Thanks for all the input everyone!
