Yes, is it possible, in a rather roundabout way - That largely depends on your age and how lenient the school is. If they`re sucking up to the public offices then they probably won`t do it, but it is possible.

Personally, I`m wondering why exactly you`re limiting yourself to "public" schools. Public high schools in Japan aren`t anywhere even close to being free, so if it`s a money issue there is no difference between public and private. Private schools are much more lenient and will be more likely to work with you.

There is an odd category called GAP. I`m not exactly what it stands for, but it`s not a student and not a teacher. Basically you are a volunteer at the school in English classes, and in return the school volunteers to let you sit in on other classes. As no money is exchanged, the visa problem never arises, and there isn`t exactly a time limit on it.

I found out about this by "volunteering" to help at a local high school in hopes of making friends. I ended up joining the English class for 2 hours a day, and free to visit other willing classes and clubs during the rest of the school day.

If you have any other questions please ask me.

You could come to gunma and fill in for me at my jr high. I'll plan all the lessons, you just go through them and tell the JTE to translate. Haha, just joking. I wouldn't worry too much about not having anything to do when your friend is in school. Everything will be so new and foreign to you that just walking around town or going to the store will be an adventure. You don't need to buy anything either. The sights and sounds will probably be entertaining enough.

Western/Northern Gunma is nice. Especially in the Minakami region where there is a lot of natural beauty and canyons.

haha are you sure a japanese highschool where normal japanese people go to if you are it gonna be hard, since you havnt master japan language yet and it would be hard to understand them, even though i would go even if i didnt understand them but i guess it another way to learn japanese faster since there not going to be alot of people there speaking english

Yeh. whether hafu, full or not japanese at all you might need to sort out alot of passport stuff just to get in. If you weren't born there you only have 90 day stay unless you request and are going to a HS/college. And even then you stay 1-2 years and they make you leave and come back later XD

and at least whats required at JLPT3 and above if you wanna survive XD
