JR pass

I have looked through the threads, but so far haven't found out whether you can actually buy more than one JR pass, ie for example one 3-week one, and a 2-week one to go with that. They sounded unsure in all the travel agencies I phoned, so could someone please clarify it for me? Thanks

do you mean to have 2, that in total would give you 5 week traveltime?
im not sure if that would be possable, but perhaps worth a shot...
Iv just bought a 3 week one myself, and i was asked when i would be arriving in JApan, but last time I went, that didnt really matter, as long as you have the ticket that you exchange for your pass then its fine. mabye speaking from experience then getting 5 weeks JR travel wont be difficult, just activate the cards at different times!

Mmm are you talking about the Suica cards?

When i use JR i jus buy a Suica card, which can also be used at some of the shops and vending carts and Vending machines.
You pay 1k Yen and you get 1k Yen of credit on this plastic card.

Instead of putting a Ticket into the booth you just put the card in your wallet and wave it above the sensor thing and it lets you thru, works the same with the Vending machines and shops.

When you run out you can jus put the card back into the machine and add more credit.

This is good if you dont know the price of the ticket in where you want to go to.
So instead of underpaying or overpaying *which is both annoying*
you jus get the exactly amount subtracted from your card.

Most rail lines have these cards.

n e prob just pm me

no , not the suica cards. The JR PAss is the one that you can use for a period of time for all JR trains except nozomi. So basically you can use it to travel all of japan.. unlimited ( for a period of time ).

ahhh Soo desu

ill have to look into that =)

i hop lines all the time so i dunno of it would be worth it for me.

the JR pass can only be bought outside japan.

since you are already here, might as well look into the JR seishun 18(juuhacchi )-kippu. But this ticket cannot be used on shinkansen, only local trains and some express and night trains. Good for travelling all over Japan also.

Thanks for all your replies. I've just bought 2 passes and - needless to say - I'm looking forward to using them :D
