Talking Japanese? - 05-29-2007, 08:52 PM

I have bought a CD rom to try and learn some japanese before my holiday. I'm not sure that i will be particularly fluent but will the japanese people appreciate my efforts or mock me for trying and get offended when i pronounce things incorrectly?

Hey Ensoninoue, that's pretty funny.

Morgan, I don't think they'd ever mock you, unless you are in like a bad area where the Japanese there hate gaijin, or maybe a little kid would make fun of you, but they are raised better then that, so I don't think it would ever happen, but other then that I think you'll be fine. They are very polite people, and I don't think you have to worry about being made fun of.

in my japanese class a while ago we were meant to be buying stamps and somehow gavin asked lee to marry him but what can ya do ^^

im sure they have the same worries about using there english but i think perhaps it would be better not if they laugh but if they point out if you mispronounce a word so you learn for nxt time there for avoid mistakes like that ^^

and good luck with your studies!!!!!

People most likely won`t blatantly laugh at you - but they might not have a clue what you`re trying to say...
And even if they do, you may not understand their answer.

Kids will be kids, and if you make a really funny mistake, they will laugh.

If anyone is trying to find me… Tamyuun on Instagram is probably the easiest.

my Japaneses is pretty poor, and i always try to talk to people.

If all else fails just say Wakarimasen or Eego De daijobu Desu ka?

basically i dont understand and is english okay?

From my experience many japanese know Basic english, teens are better then most adults.

And they will do their best to use body language to communicate.
They will not make fun of you, cuz that would be rude, and Japanese are very polite people.

They are also embarrassed to speak English because they are thought to be made fun of or laughed at.

So if you try to speak Japanese and cant communicate 100% then at least you tried and it will make them more comfortable to try to speak a little english.
