I still need to get a credit card for my trip aswell, but I'm also going to have cahs on me.

You can go to AAA and get cash converted into Yen. Thats what I'm going to do soon, but I'll also have some American cash on hand aswell.

Visited Japan in 2007.

I am female.

i think sometimes with cash machines thers a £1.50 charge though, so take big lumps rather than small, use the machines at post office.

Have a great trip though

I was using Visa electron though...

also HMV took card with no problems or papers to fill out... i know that also happens sometimes

Bankai!

There are very few cash machines you can use....not all will accept your card so a credit card is a must!

I called my bank today, there might be a chance my CC will be ready intime, I will pick up money for the trip on friday, and they assured me that I should be able to get cash from most of the machines.

**/curses self for expecting a CC application to take less than a week**

Well as long as you say excuse me (sumimasen) and approach in a friendly and respectful manner, then I believe any of those things you listed will be appropriate!

I can't wait for pictures! Where in JP are you going?

Most credit cards are accepted at post offices, so you should have no trouble there. But I recommend bringing mostly cash, especially if you are on a whirlwind tour of Japan or something like that.
