Afraid to go to Japan because I'm Mexican

Hey so...

I'm Mexican too, and I just got back from Japan after two months. Believe me, it was AMAZING. Also, people will automatically be curious of where you're from, etc. Learn as much Japanese before you go. Seriously. Do you have any friends in Japan, or are you just going to make friends? If it's the latter, you'll be very lonely in a place where barely anyone speaks English. Seriously, I had an AMAZING time. They also are impressed if you can make tortillas. I made some for my host family. They were so happy.

Again, I cannot stress enough that Japan is fine for traveling. Read my post in "Living in Japan" if you want. I talked a bit about that stuff there.

I don't think you understand. (I'm assuming you're Caucasian) Japanese have different perceptions on Caucasians than other races. Remember, most Japanese people are only exposed to foreigners via Hollywood movies. Unfortunately, many Hollywood movies reinforce stereotypes from the Western world. It is unfair for someone to make fun of someone else's fears because they don't understand.

If anything I would have thought that the Japanese would have a problem with caucasains due to the stereotypical shit that is produced. But they don't. Japan is like other countries not everyone is a racist but there are racists in every country you may travel to! But I will tell you now that they are out numbered and out matched by all the others that aren't racist!

I think all you need to do is prove that you understand and respect Japanese culture. So long as you do that, you shouldn't have a problem, IMO.
