My embarassing Japan moment - 12-31-2008, 04:55 AM

When I was i Japan i got to experience a traditional kimono and tea ceremony. The tea was being served through a line of people and i was at the end of the line. The room was dead silent. I picked up my tea and realized everyone was watching me as i was drinking it. I started to laugh and in a split second the tea spewed out over the floor and i was choking. Everyone was stopping and looking at me like i had just died. Two old japanese women looked so worried. They had thought i threw up and that i was sick so they came and wiped me off with a towel as everyone was still silent ans staring at me. It was so embarrassing that i almost cried.

Online as in real life.

I feel like a jerk because I thought that was frickin' hilarious. Don't worry. You're probably not the first person to embarrass themselves during a tea ceremony. I've heard the tea's very bitter and I would've probably reacted the same way.

I think it was just nerves, not manners.
I had a coworker (American) who thought the soup was a fingerbowl since there was no spoon in it. The looks she got!

Haha, we were in a chinese restaurant and got one with no spoon in, we didn't know what it was for, and we asked the man and he loled and told us it was to clean our hands. I loled at our noobness.
