Yeah, Tokyo does wear you out really fast. I can tell just looking at the pictures that all the stuff you said is true. It looks a lot more fun than Kanto, but how long does it take to get to Nagano is my question. I have considered moving south but I don't want to leave my mountains and cold weather too far behind. Luckily I live near little Brazil so when I need out of Japan I just ride to Oizumi.

one of the reasons is that, when you're in Osaka, you have Nara, Kyoto, and Kobe all extremely close by. Like, within 2 hours. These cities all have a very distinct feel to them, so it never gets old. In the Tokyo Yokohama area it's almost hard to tell where Tokyo stops and Yokohama begins... It all kinda runs together like a gray mush.

Also, as any Japanese person will tell you, the people in Osaka are "different". They're loud, excitable, outgoing, friendly, and really straight-forward. Also, because Tokyo is really a city of immigrants, the people kind of lack any kind of particular identity with the city. People in Kansai will tell you straightaway that they love their city and will be sure to tell you about all the great things to see and eat!

I used to say that living in Tokyo is like living in Disneyland. It's fun, for sure! I spent so much money and had so much fun there... But it's not a place to live. I only really noticed that after moving to Osaka though. Now when I go back to Tokyo it almost makes me tired!

Anyway, Osaka has Takoyaki.

could not have said it any better...

the yodogawa fireworks is a must see... ive not missed a single hanabi yet
although the one in sakai is the largest, its so far and usually very crowded ..

Osaka-Nagano is a little far than Tokyo-Nagano..

Osaka-Nozawa Onsen in Nagano is aroung 7-8 hrs by bus.
Toyama is I think more or less 3 hours from Kyoto

How much would that cost? I wouldn't mind doing the night bus deal if I can get round trip for around 6-8,000 yen. Does anyone know of a bus fare finder like the ones you can find on the net for the trains? That would be really helpful. It is not so much time I am concerned with but rather the yen involved in the equation.

I am not sure about the bus alone, but when we went to Nozawa in Nagano I paid around 26,000yen that includes : bus ( round trip ), hotel accomodation for 2 days 1 night, dinner and breakfast , the lift for 2 days, food and drinks and prices for the games.

fireworks, is on the month of august. the biggest is always( think ) on the first day of august. Yodogawa is usually the first sat .. So around osaka or kansai, the month of august is fireworks month.. welcoming the summer..

its minato-ku.. Minato-ku (Ward), Osaka City
