i reckon the best way is to just practise... most "how to draw manga" books are kinda crap, atleast at my library.
a JF user made a thread showing how he draws manga. its pretty helpful.
....let me find it...

EDIT:

I have one of these books! The one I have is called How to Draw Manga : Beyond the Basics. This one :

They are REALLY good books, I have a few and this is definatly the best one I have. The one I have has drawing techniques, facial expressions, poses, and different colouring techniques [which are in full colour inserts at the end.]

It's extremely easy to understand, and even if your a beginner it is really easy to produce some good work, and I still use techniques I learnt in this book.

I highly recommend it ^-^

If you are just starting out, get the 'Starting Out' one. They are really basic, so even if you have never drawn manga before they really do help. The do cater for people who are intermediate aswell, showing some more advanced techniques in later series of the books.

But if you have like, NO drawing experiance, I recommend doing something simpler first - people are one of the hardest things to draw.

It sounds completely boring, but still life is good help, even though it sucks. But it helps you compose and shade things correctly.

But if you wanna just jump straight in with Manga, then this book series is probably the best for the job ^-^

Sorry, I seemed to have got confused between 'Draw Your Own Manga' and 'How to Draw Manga' ^-^;;

However, I was reading the 'How to Draw Manga' books at a shop in town, and they are pretty similiar to the 'Draw Your Own Manga' series. I don't own any of the books, but I've looked through nearly all of those advertised, and they look good to me ^-^

Well if you're going for the 'How to Draw Manga' ones, then these are the ones that stood out for me :

HOW TO DRAW MANGA -- MANGA UNIVERSITY

This shows all the basics and stuff ~

HOW TO DRAW MANGA -- MANGA UNIVERSITY

This one is maids and miko, which is really cute, and it has a nice range of clothing and hairstyles to have a go at ^-^

Then it's definatly the 'Draw Your Own Manga' series.

The reason being, the How to Draw Manga ones are a bit dated - Draw Your Own Manga looks more like a modern manga should, and also, it's a bit easier to follow than the How to Draw Manga ones.
