+I work at the Institute of Contemporary art and the Museum of Fine arts here in Boston and Ive seen alot of his work in person, I like his older stuff.
His newer stuff.......meh (I hate it when good artists are consumed and become strictly commercial, that collaboration with LV was kinda kool though).
Hes a pretty kool guy though (getting old, lol)
and he has students too but they're art is pretty much an exact copy of his style.
(One of his more successful students is Chiho Aoshima....who by the way is also pretty cute imo, lol. She spoke no English when I met her though and translating stuff was awkward so yeah.)

Ayako Rokkaku

If you like the work of Murakami. Check out the work of Ayako Rokkaku. She is a protege of him and she has won the Scout Prize at Geisai # 4 and the prestigious Akio Goto Prize at Geisai # 9.

Murakami is not and does not stand for Japanese Art. He has co-opted that moniker, but is generally despised by most Japanese in the art world here. Creating a neo-orientalism is a dangerous, unnecessary and damaging endeavor. He bulldozed artists of talent and ideas to promote his vapid vision which plagues all traveling Japanese in addition to incessant questions about sushi, manga, geisha, samurai... now they must be plagued by that mental midget and his dishonesty. Check his writings for footnotes and Living artists that me gloms on to.

don't you find neo-orientalism boring?
