Help identifying a Japanese Poet - 05-20-2009, 08:53 PM

Now if i remember this guy isn't well known outside of Japan but most people know him here. He did a book with many short and philosophical poems. The name of the poet or the poem book would be greatly appreciated. I only remember one poem in its translated form.

"Without losers there can be no winners"

It was something like that. As i recall most of the other poems were in that kinda short and meaningful style too and I'm pretty sure these weren't Haiku.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

相田みつを, maybe? If it were he, the book would be 『にんげんだもの』(1984).

This is a mere conjecture to be honest. But if the guy you're looking for is known for his calligraphy as well, then I could be right.
