Hand drawn Daruma calligraphy - 09-08-2009, 08:51 PM

When I went to Japan in 07, I climbed Mt. Sanriyama in Takefu, Fukui.

Long story short, we did Zazen and then I was offered this hand-drawn Daruma sketch by the priest himself. He said I could include one Kanji, and being the cheeseball I am, I chose "Ai".

Can anyone tell me the significance (if any) of these types of drawings?
