Trying to find original of this Japanese Painting
This was a project in my class and I want to see a bigger picture of it, and what it looked like before it was drawn over. Unless that is actually how it is suppose to look like... But I would like to see a larger (possible color) picture... Thank you

It is however, cribbed off of the style of Hokusai's series of views of Mt. Fuji.

"cribbed off" - thanks Columbine, I've learned another piece of English :) When I have read what you wrote, I looked at that painting once more, and I wondered if a word "creeped off" would me more suitable lol :D |

Glad to have taught you something! |

And this didn't come from my knowledge; It's stated at bottom right of the drawing. :) |
so in other words some freak painted it over? 奈良 美智? I can't believe it sells for 2 grand lol...
|
Neither can I, but this kind of thing happens in all forms of art, I guess.

He`s a world famous artist, not just some random guy. While I wouldn`t call that pic something representative, the other stuff he is famous for is probably the reason for the high price.
I have a signed print of one of his paintings... |

Also i'm kicking myself. I HAVE a picture of the original in a book on my shelf; http://storage.canalblog.com/84/98/347638/29578754.jpg but I didn't recognise it. Art faiiilllll~ |

He has had some really huge exhibitions, and I believe even has some large scale art installations in New York. |
which proves that people tend to relate to art through a heart of their pocket.
sad innit. lol Columbine, it happens to me while I am studying calligraphy. I know I saw this kanji before, also wrote it gazillion times, but for the love of Buddha I can't recollect its meaning. I think i need more RAM, or ... Geriavit. as Sashimister pointed out, the real artist is 昇亭 北寿(しょうてい ほくじゅ、宝暦13年(1763年) ?‐文政7年(1824年)以降)は、江戸時代後期の浮世絵 である。 (from WIKI) and the vandal was 奈良 美智 Yoshitomo Nara Yoshitomo Nara - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia |

It was on to a print - nothing was "vandalized", really. |

so then, a print with some shit on it sells for 2 grand? lol... snobbism and stupidity will never cease to amaze me

I think if you can make a name for yourself and make money from the art world while not touching a thing - more power to you. I've been a fan of Nara's since I bought my first Shonen Knife album in 1998. |
