Making petticoats? - 12-21-2007, 07:44 PM

Mmmkay. So I'm going to start dressing loli. And I NEED a petticoat.

Problem is? My parents won't let me buy one because they're so expensive. So I was thinking of making one. My sewing isn't that great, but... ah, what the heck.

How do you go about making one, though? If anyone has found any free patterns online, or has instructions, I'd be totally grateful ^.^

I'm so jealous! Youre actually planning to make a petticoat? that is awesome. Its great to know someone loves to dress like a loli. Why don't you just buy a cheaper version? have you checked ebay lately? I think sometimes they have stuff there that are pretty cheap (like coats, just type fruits japan on the search menu.) I found this pix on ebay:

It cost like $32 shipping is like $16

Meh I got a petticoat (not fabulous quality) from Target for under $20.

If you really wanna make one, you could buy any simple skirt pattern and adjust it to how long you want it, and add whatever else to it. It'd be simple, there is only really one seam and a hem. You'd need access to a sewing machine though...

Too cool for a yellow emoticon

Nobody tells how to make one, everyone are just telling where to buy one. o_O

Middle size girl(waist 70cm and over) can make a tulle petticoat example like this:

You need some elastic band(length is your waist measure + 3 cm extra), some “normal” fabric(almost every fabric what goes the same way as cotton and width is ~150 cm is good) 25 cm. You need 120 cm tulle (width 130 cm), and some lace 520 cm. Cut the tulle in wide direction in six pieces, that every of these six pieces are 20cm x130cm.

1) Sew two tulle pieces together, 260cm long piece.
2) Sew rest four tulle pieces together, 520cm long piece.
3) Sew (or stitch) your selected lace in longer tulle piece’s bottom edge.
4) Gather the longer tulle part and sew it on shorter tulle part’s bottom edge.
5) Neat the “normal” fabric’s edges and make a tunnel for elastic band on “normal” fabric’s top edge.
6) Gather tulle system’s thinner piece’s top head, and sew it on “normal” fabric’s bottom edge.
7) Sew all system’s open edges together.
8) Put the elastic band in the tunnel, and tie heads together. Voilá!

I tried to translate it, but i'm not sure about every word. O_o

I figure you could do what I did; which is go to a bridal shop. They have plenty of petticoats, especially if you have a small waist. But, it also depends what kind of petticoat you're looking for I guess....

I don't know if that is really any help..
