they're for the different lenghts of hair~
long hair people would use a larger plate~
short haired people
and those that want more control over their hair~ would use the mini

If you got shorter hair a straightener with thin plates (1,5 cm) is much easier to use. Like this one:

I have a Braun portable straightener and it works just fine. Before you buy one, make sure it is a ceramic straightener, otherwise it'll burn your hair and that wouldn't be pretty >.<

everything is relative and contradictory ~

I know a lot of people who swear by the CHI brand.

Anything ceramic. You shouldnt straighten your hair with a straightener metal plates....it damages your hair.

Another tip is to use a product that protect your hair against the heat. I've used L'Oreals Hot Staight. Worked pretty good. The hair stayed straight a little longer. But I think there's more and better products like these =)
