Question How to dye my hair blonde? - 09-17-2008, 07:42 PM

I have "dish water blonde" hair (light brown hair)

Example: Dish Water Blonde

I want to make it lighter, so can I use Hydrogen Peroxide to dye it blond?

I found this page:

Dying My Hair with Hydrogen Peroxide

Sounds like it is a 50/50 chance, I'll end up with orange hair.

Anyone have any good tips?

Thanks!

Peace!

If you want your hair lightening, I cannot stress how easy it is for your hair to go absolutely horribly wrong! Please please pleeeeease try your best to get it done professionally in a salon - it could actually save you money - the cost of trying to salvage your hair if it goes wrong is far worse!

If you insist on doing it yourself, follow the instructions exactly, and time the application of the cream down to the last minute! If you don't leave it on long enough, it will go orange, and if you leave it on too long your hair will fall out. You've been warned Also, do not use it if you have ever dyed your hair, and the dye is still there.

Oh and for dyes, I recommend a brand called 'Smart Colour.' They are good and they do the job well.

Thank you for the advice, I've been told to go
to a pro salon each time, but I am a man and
my wife would be very upset, she does not do
her hair at all, so I've decided to try it a little
at a time, 50/50 HP and water...

"I want to make it lighter, so can I use Hydrogen
Peroxide to dye it blond?"

I'm going to start out slow, mix a bottle of it and
keep it in the shower and spray it on my hair each
time I get in the shower and let it soak in for 1 min
then wash my hair like normal.

I hope my son does not get into that bottle, DOH!
no just kidding he is a good boy and if I tell him not
to touch it he won't.

Okay, so 50/50 solution of HP and water, spray on
dry hair, mix it in and let it stay on for 1 min, then
rinse out and shampoo and wash like normal.

plus any more advice anyone has, oh and I've never
herd of:

'Smart Colour.'

Do they sell it in the USA? I don’t know, because my wife does
all the grocery shopping.

Thanks!

Peace!

I have no idea how that method will work, but I suppose it's worth a try. If you only leave it for a minute, it won't do anything though. Dyes are supposed to be put on dry hair and left for a period of anything from 20 minutes to an hour depending on the type and what the instructions say, and then washed out. I don't know what doing it on wet hair, mixed with water, and then washed out will do, but my guess is probably nothing!

In any case, I have no idea if they do Smart Colour in America since I live in England, but you could have a look and see ^_^

Buy a hair lightening kit like Sun-In (I think they have that in the states). You just put it in your hair like regular dye and sit outside for a bit.

I agree with Misa, the leave the peroxide in for 3 min idea isnt going to work. Peroxide isnt bleach. It requires time to work properly, and it has a bad history of destroying peoples' hair even when it does work.

if you cant afford a pro (not even a first choice haircutters place!?) then definitely buy a $5-10 box of sun-in or whatever lightening product is available at your local walmart or drug store. It will save you a lot of hassle in the end.

Sun-in and a hair dryer on high heat. Used to use that technique years ago.

Thank you for the tips and advice,...

This "Sun-in" is that the name or a type of product?

I did a Google search:

FEEDBACK: >>>> SUN-IN

and is this it?

But seems silly, if it is mostly peroxide and water according to the feedback that I have read. I can make that myself, right?

Peace!

P.S. I am a guy, I normally cut my hair really short, so if ti turns orange, no big deal, Buzzzzz, off it goes. If I get a Job in Japan, I want to grow my hair out and make it blond.

Thanks.

You may be a male but thats no reason to have ugly puke-yellow hair. Badly bleached hair looks terrible. Its the sort of thing every 14yr old boy does to try and be "different" when they start highschool, and it always look putrid.

I dont think thats the sun in we have in canada. Its a box like hair dye.
GO TO YOUR LOCAL DRUG STORE AND JUST ASK THE LADY IN THE MAKEUP/HAIR AREA FOR **** SAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peroxide is going to destroy your hair or make it bloody ugly and frazzled.
It isnt going to hurt for you to friggen ASK someone at the makeup counter for advice. Tell them what you want and they should be able to point you to a product to suffice.

Or go to a stylist.
