I'd say it's all about maintaining the look. If you don't take decent care of your hair to keep it's texture as at the salon's, dye it regularly (especially the pink as it tends to fade incredibly fast and turn salmon-colored) and in general just do whatever the hairstylist did, then obviously it's impossible to keep. You cannot expect a hairstyle to stay in place forever unless you do something for it. Hairstylists cut and style during the limited time you're there - they don't do magic.
