What is this... called? - 09-19-2010, 03:17 PM

Hello.

I'm looking for the name of this hair band, tube, gummy or whatever it is:
.jpg
You also see it in old samurai movies etc. Idea is to make a plate that ends in a palm. Unfortunately I've no Idea what it exactly is or what it is made of. I need the name / type so I can find where I can buy it / something similar.

My researches ended here:
Chonmage (as name for a haircut where it is supposed to be used)
hirauchi himo
chosen mage

Wheather you know the item name or the haircut name, both helps me out.

thanks in advance.

name for a haircut
茶筅髷 ちゃせんまげ Chasen-mage
Chasen means this

Japanese tea ceremony equipment.
Do you see why the haircut is calld Chasen-mage?

hirauchi himo
平打ち紐 ひらうちひも
you are right.good job.
Hirauchi himo is used for Chasen mage. But it is just a kind of japanese traditional flat-knit braid. Not a special equipment for the haircut.
You might get in Kimono shop.I found one shop.Unfortunately they don't have English page. But it may help you.

Actually, it is a flat-knit braid belt.帯締め おびじめ obijime in Japanese.
In short, the name of the item is a braid.

EDIT
I found interesting Sanada himo.

What is the name of the picture GUY character? SANADA?
Samurai prefered sanada himo type.

first of all, thanks for your information : D

second: It's Guy (character) from the Street Fighter franchise.

so I should look for "Sanada himo" yes? I'm looking for a pure white, red and black one. Maybe you know where to find or can check those sites for me, since I can't read japanese. =)

But I'll also search for myself, maybe I'm lucky enough and find a english store

thanks again.
