Traditional Costume - 05-31-2011, 12:23 AM

Hello.
I'll talk about traditional costume in my living area.

In the place where I live, there are traditional costumes that the girl puts on in the festival.
They put on the hakama putting on the kimono.
We call them “Chigo”.They dancing around Shishi.
It is said the Shishimai.
I had participated the Shishimai six years ago.

I think that the famous for the fashion of Japan is a kimono.
I like it very much.
So, I want everyone to wear it more

Hi Hiropon,

I wore a yukata a few times at some of the local festivals in Takamatsu and Nagoya when I lived there. It's a great experience for a foreigner especially because here in Australia we never really dress up for anything except weddings and funerals.

Less is more...

Hi Hiropon!

Do you think it is strange if a Japanese person wears a kimono once a month? or once a week?

I wish I could see more kimono and yukatta in daily life, I like the way they look and their patterns

It's definitely odd to see someone wearing a kimono so often. The only ones are older women when they have an event or off to the temple.

The younger generation wear kimono for graduations, weddings and things like that while yukata are purely summer time for fireworks and festivals. It's sad how many young people don't know how or care how to properly wear yukata and kimono....
