When I was in Harajuku

like a week ago (I used to go every weekend), I actually didn't see any of the creepy people that are shown in pictures. I saw like 2 lolitas my entire time in Japan. (2 months) Does anyone else who's been to Japan feel that the west over exaggerates Japanese fashion? Most people wear western designers or school uniforms. They look like people from every other country...even the ganguro look like SoCal girls.

when i went in february.. there were about 6 people cosplaying and a free hug guy.. and that was about it- then there were millions of tourists. maybe it depends which week you go??

SaginumaEki 08-05-2007 09:08 PM

Yeah, I saw the free hug guy in Roppongi Hills and I gave him a hug. I was there most of the summer, and I didn't see anything. I really feel like the west over exaggerates Japanese street fashion. The only other people I saw cosplaying were a bunch of tourist otaku girls. All the Japanese friends I had were like, those people are so weird.

maybe theres only a veryy few people who do cosplay... but lotss of people have got pictures of these few people so it seems like a lot of people cosplay...... if that made any sense :S

SaginumaEki 08-05-2007 09:14 PM

No yeah, that's what I was trying to say. Like, my host brother and his friends would like point and laugh at the cosplayers. Like, they think those people are weird.

chibibecci 08-05-2007 09:19 PM

i think its kool the way that some of them are cosplaying though... you'd never get anyone do that here.

SaginumaEki 08-05-2007 09:22 PM

Have you been to New York City on any of the holidays? Or have you been to a drag show? Those drag queens can give the cosplayers a run for their money.

chibibecci 08-05-2007 09:33 PM

i guess.. but you'd never really get teenagers dressing up like this anywhere like near Birmingham New street station or at a station in London anywhere...

Any big city has its share of freaks. Tokyo is bigger than most cities, so obviously it has more freaks. You just gotta look around to find them.

Mostly it's the same people who cosplays. You'll recognize some of the girls in the JF gallery as well, in more than one piccie.
