Japanese Gothic Lolita hatchets her dad to death

I saw this news story about a 16 year old Japanese gothic lolita girl, who was also into reading and drawing manga. Last month, she killed her father with a hatchet. I wonder if the Japanese press will blame manga and gothic lolita culture for the killing? Here is some of the article:

Upon entering the second-story bedroom, the Japanese police beheld a nightmarish scene that appeared as if the Manson Family had just paid a visit. Clad in a black one-piece frock spattered with blood from the grisly deed, the dead man's 16 year old daughter was arrested on the spot.

The young perpetrator was a full-fledged gosu-rori ("Gothic Lolita"), a Japanese subculture that took root around 1990, in which young women dress up in frilly Victorian costumes that range from the ultracute to the macabre.

According to Shukan Post, the teen was also said to have been particularly infatuated with "Fullmetal Alchemist," Hiromu Arakawa's popular comic serial about hard-luck siblings who had lost their mother.

I guess that many people will probably blame the whole Gothic Lolita subculture for that.Like when they say that violent games makes the kids violent.Society always blame something else when those kind of thing happens because they refuse to admit that actually the problem is with the society itself. Also people tend to refuse to believe that someone can kill in Cold-Blood without any Negative influences. But the truth in my opinion is that a killer will always kill. With or without influences. For a Natural-Born killer anything can be a trigger, from movies to games, and mangas or books. So if they blame the Gothic Lolitas for the whole thing,I think that would be totally wrong. The girl was just insane. That's it.

t3hcur3 10-09-2007 10:09 PM

She may not have been insane.

according to the article, the girl was "sick of his womanizing" - that may have meant her father was cheating on her mother, which could be scarring enough for a young girl, but if we're facing facts, he may have abused her.

I think that it's more likely that she turned to gothic loli, anime, and drawing because she was trying to escape from reality.

I've wanted to kill my dad, too...I just never did it. there are some really awful people in the world...me included, probably..

Kaicui 10-09-2007 10:52 PM

lmao he got 1 hit KO!

MaymeRachael 10-10-2007 12:23 AM

God that's horribe but would make for a good horror movie! *runs into room and begins writing*

Zanmai 10-10-2007 01:32 PM

Woah gruesome. But it sounds like gothic lolita, anime and the likes are being blamed for that murder. But hey, mainstream entertainment is violent too. Look at Saw, and it's sequels, Final Destination and such. Why only blame anime eh? Sorry if I sound obsessed and stuff, I love anime and EGL, so I really can't stand people blaming them when things go wrong. If anything, such things happen because there isn't enough love in the world.

>tehcur3: you don't sound like the awful people I know. Don't worry. You sound sane =D need a hug?

>Acidreptile: Love your reasoning, not because it defends Gothic Lolitaa, but yea, it points out clearly the biases of society. They can't accept what is not "mainstream"

Lien 10-10-2007 01:43 PM

it grosses me out to see that everytime something happens they look if the murderer or thief or whatever belongs to a subculture and then they start spreading nonsense about it. in my capital city brussels there's a murderer called 'manga-killer' on the loose, he killed somebody and left a note wich refers to death note, so know the cops think he's a japanese or a japanese fanatic

Demysia 10-10-2007 01:45 PM

I agree with Zanmai.

That's horrible though x__X

gloomth 10-10-2007 02:48 PM

Choppy Choppy.

Ok that was rude.
I hate it when the media decides that horrible things that happen are the fault of a subculture fashion or trend. I get nasty ridiculous emails from morons the world over blaming goths for whatever atrocity recently occurred. its so maddening.

Dear World,
THE WAY YOU DRESS DOES NOT INSTANTLY DEVELOP MURDEROUS/CRUEL TENDENCIES WITHIN YOURSELF!!!!!! DOES YOUR DRESS SHIRT MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL? NO! THINK ABOUT IT.

A Japanese Lizzy Borden. For those not familier with her, she "alegedly" killed both her parents with a hatchet in 1892. She was tried and aquitted. No one else was tried for the murders. Its speculated she was sexually abused by her father.

Of course the media will blame whatever subculture, music, video game, television show etc. Its the nature of media or society in general who wants to find a reason for someones behavior. Of course it couldnt be the parents fault, so lets blame something else. Can these things be an influence? Possibley, but the bottom line is the individual had issues beforehand.

Society is afraid of what it cant understand.

Tsuzuki 10-10-2007 04:20 PM

meh ??????????????? Oo

MisaMisa 10-10-2007 04:30 PM

I don't think that the gothic-loli should be blamed for some people's behavioral problems.

kuronekoaus 10-11-2007 03:04 AM

Eh, these 'blamings' happen all the time. It was punk in the 80's, goth in the 90's, emo more recently. These things blow over, it's just the media wants something to talk about.

Zanmai 10-11-2007 11:36 AM

The media is the problem if you ask me. Violence get spread more quickly. But if there were no media, we'd be kinda bored...

>gloomth: *gives candy* Nice speech ;)

Killer Gothic Lolita

Man I hate that! People always look for outside sources to blame rather than the person themselves. When I really got into Gothic Lolita my Mom saw one of my few Lolita magazines that featured REEEELY gothic styles and almost started praying over me!!! I calmly explained to her about the style and even showed her the other styles: Sweet Lolita, Victorian Lolita, Asian Lolita just to name a few. She calmed down a bit and lets me experiment with my style but always keeps on her toes everytime I buy a Gothic Lolita book or magazine. Oh well..... I'm a Lolita and proud so whatever.:vsign:

NanteNa 10-11-2007 01:48 PM

So typical of the media to blame whatever kind of film or music the blamed person either watches or enjoys to listen to.

Shinserph 10-11-2007 01:54 PM

well...when reading this...i dont mind killing people though...but i must be wearing white...to have blood splatter on it...or black to feel like a reaper...LOL...i feel as though my mind is distorted...but it'll be fine haha

eeew! sicko! *bats shinserph* lol... but there are times when people get um... violent thoughts once in awhile... about stabbing a certain b*tch or something... *cough*, not that I'd think such violent thoughts of cos. Haha.

>LolitaYuki: Aw, at least youu get to read the mags. My mom freaked out when I painted my nails black. Or when she discovered my secret stash of Shoxx. Which Lolita mags do you read by the way? The stores here don't take in a wide variety as I want =/

nobora 07-07-2010 09:56 PM

So are they saying that she killed her father becasue of fma?? or because of the fashion ?

crossline 07-27-2010 04:41 PM

i think it is unfair to blame some subculture or fashion trend. unless this subculture does command you to kill people then there you go. in moments like these people will make a million speculations. something is always bigger than the moment. i'm sure something or someone messed that kid up somewhere and she just lost it!

I will have something like that in Iris Blood, a visual novel I want to make

colovegirl 08-07-2010 03:44 AM

Yes, that is horrible. But is it wrong for this girl to kill his dad or is it wrong for the girl's father to cheat on the girl's monther?

slystrawberry 08-23-2010 05:39 AM

thats horrible

Qayin 08-23-2010 09:47 AM

Oh I can't believe this.

But, in my opinion it's not fair to blame the culture and media. It's all because of her parents. You know, children behaviour is parents' responsibility. If parents can't control their children, why in the hell they should have children in the first place?

The problem is when something like this happen, some idiot will start to blame something that related to the children like games, TV, comic, culture etc. That the way "IDIOTs" think!

It's like when someone bit the other, then the media said "His favorite movie is Dracula so let's stop airing Dracula". That sucks

2 years ago this thing happened in my country too.

A high school boy, hijacked and killed taxi driver. Then the media said "He like to play GTA (Grand Theft Auto: It's a free roaming crime game.) and he copied the stunt", then the govt' ban GTA sales all over the country.

The problem is "Is everyone who play GTA commit a crime?,". I've played GTA myself since London 1969 through San Andreas, then Chinatown War. So I gotta be a murder, a trafickker or a pimp (like in San Andreas): NO!

Finally I hope that this won't affect ゴスロリ culture so much. Don't let only one case bring all the culture down.

V1nn1 08-23-2010 03:07 PM

It can't be because of FMA O.o

It may be a bit bloody, but not like that...

Miyukichan55 09-27-2010 08:48 PM

I'm sure there were many factors that led to her killing her dad, its horrible but who knows if he had it coming or not, i can't say for sure cus i dont know the whole story and back story but anyway the media might blame the subculture of goth-loli(even though it has nothing to do with it) but sadly thats world we live in.
